The Cross Trust is again proud to sponsor a concert at the 2021 Perth Festival. The Festival this year will be online, and The Cross Trust Artists of the Year event will feature several of the young people the Trust has supported in the past. Lauren McQuistin (soprano voice) and Hugh Mackay (‘cello) will both be accompanied by Junyan Chen (piano), and jazz will be represented by Matthew Kilner (saxophone), Neil Birse (piano), Ewan Hastie (bass) and Richard Glassby (drums). Lauren will be singing music by Rachmaninov, Puccini (Donde Lieta from La Bohème) and Richard Strauss, while cellist Hugh features music by Beethoven (his 12 Variations on a theme by Mozart) and Nadia Boulanger. The jazz quartet will play a timely tribute to the late Chick Corea, and also music by Hoagy Carmichael and Kenny Wheeler.
Deprived of live musical performance for over a year, the musicians are eager to play, and will create their concert in the intimate surroundings of Perth Theatre Studio. The Festival has engaged the services of Stagecast to film all the concerts (Stagecast have been working with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra during the last year). The musicians arrive on Tuesday May 25th and, after detailed rehearsal and sound checking, will be introduced by Cross Trust trustee and saxophonist Richard Ingham, and filmed as live. The concert will be broadcast on Thursday 27th May at 8pm, and tickets (£5) are on sale from 5th April.
