Donating by Gift Aid

This is a Government Scheme which allows The Cross Trust as a registered Scottish Charity to reclaim tax on gifts made by UK taxpayers. The Trust as a Charity can accept your donation – which is money on which you have already paid tax – and then reclaim the basic rate tax from H M Revenue & Customs on its "gross" equivalent – ie the amount before basic rate tax was deducted.

At present basic rate tax is 20% so this means that if you give £10 using Gift Aid it is worth £12.50 to the Trust; £100 becomes £125 and £1,000 becomes £1,250 and so on. Please note that under the current regulations if you pay tax at the higher rate you can claim further tax relief in your self-assessment Tax Return.

Please note that for Gift Aid to be claimed, it is not necessary that you promise to give more than one donation nor that you promise to donate for a specified period of time.
